Anime Champ arcade cabinet test and overview, anime classics from a lost era!

The first thing I really have to say about the "Anime" portion of this, myself and most of the clientele that will likely play on this over the years will probably not recognize 95% of the series depicted. It is a definite relic, and it brings up feelings in me that make me want to go watch some really dated Anime. It is definitely very attractive to me for that!

About the cabinet itself, first thing I want to mention is that in the video I said that it was missing the foot sensor panels that I saw in the manual. I was mistaken by this; it was instructions to remove them since they were a part of Step Champ. After I looked closer at the artwork for the cabinet, they are just decals put over the Step Champ art on the cab, since these were apparently all converted from Step Champ. The 3-player control panel was attached to the front of the cab in the conversion, which you can kind of tell by the coin box being sunken into the front of the cab. That explains the foot icon above the start buttons, and smashes much of the hope that I'll be able to find a Step Champ; I'd bet many/most were converted and no longer exist.

The gameplay is similar to many other Bishi/Champ games, this one lets you pick mini-games from a menu. Each one is themed on various Anime of an older era, but the mini-games themselves are the same/similar as the other Bishi/Champ ones. The monitor on this cabinet was also strikingly beautiful, though this cab had less of the crazy artwork put into it than others like GatchaGachamp. Most of it is just a list of Anime series names.

Really pretty cab, this is the only one that didn't come with the other batch. I found it on Yahoo! Japan, and pounced at the chance to get it. It smells like mothballs (I think)? inside and reminds me of being a little kid in Taiwan watching my cousins play Famicom games, but is otherwise in fine condition. Looking forward to some nostalgia with this!
