Onboard the Lotus Cars Australia Lotus Exige of Dean Evans at Round 1 of the 2006 Lotus Trophy (when Dean was Deputy Editor of Motor mag).
Having qualified on pole by 1.1 seconds and won race one, Dean started from 10th position (top 10 was reversed) for this, race three.
At the race start, thanks to another car missing a shift, and then another crashing a few corners later, Dean was up to second place by turn four - and then the chase to hunt down Ian Luff in the red Laminex Exige started...
The Lotus Trophy was a one-make racing series held in 2004-2006, and this was Dean's first race in the new car, moving up to a 141kW Class A Exige, following his 16th-to-1st in less than one lap drive in an 89kW Class B Elise at Bathurst six months earlier, which earned him the factory drive with Lotus Australia. The series went bust after qualifying at the following round at Wakefield Park, where Dean again qualified on pole.
