The supremely talented Shreya Ghoshal, sits down with Filmfare to reflect on over two decades of music, memories, and milestones. From the moment she first captured hearts with her debut songs in Devdas to delivering evergreen hits like Jadu Hai Nasha Hai and Sun Raha Hai Na Tu, her journey has been nothing short of magical. With grace and gratitude, she revisits the moments that shaped her career. Shreya Ghoshal opens up about navigating the clutter of social media, the uncertainty around originality, and how she strives to maintain her voice as both an artist and a public figure. Taking a trip down memory lane, she recalls her teenage years in Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota in Rajasthan. She shares how her father, recognising her potential, once took her to a singing competition - a moment that set the course for her future. From there, her journey led to the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma, which became the stepping stone to her big break in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.

She fondly remembers recording Bairi Piya in the very studio where Lata Mangeshkar once recorded - a surreal and humbling moment that remains etched in her memory. Over the years, Shreya has built strong bonds with fellow artists like Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, and music directors such as Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar. One of her fond recollections is the recording of Sun Raha Hai Na from Aashiqui 2. She reveals that her original take on the song was full of nuance and maturity, but producer Mukesh Bhatt later asked for a change in tone so that it is aligned with the novice singer Aarohi's voice, Shraddha Kapoor's character in the film. She performs different versions of it while singing live, each with a different mood — and even sings snippets while sharing the story. Shreya also reflects on her bold songs like Chikni Chameli and Jadu Hai Nasha Hai. Though daring in their picturisation, she admits she never felt uncomfortable watching them post-release - a sign, she says, of how audiences’ perspectives have evolved over time.

Away from the mic, Shreya talks warmly about her life with her husband Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya and the joy and balance she has found in motherhood.
