Mount Doom Book Nook // Lord of the Rings Diorama

Описание к видео Mount Doom Book Nook // Lord of the Rings Diorama

We're back with another book nook! I couldn't think of what scene I wanted to create, but my partner gave me the perfect idea for a Mount Doom, Frodo tossing the ring into the fires of Mordor, setting! Of course, you've got Sam doing his best "DO IT, MR. FRODO" and Gollum just being a creep on the fringes.

A few people have asked how I make my frame for the book nooks. I use 6mm MDF since it's flat and sturdy, and takes paint well without showing grain/texture. I cut it down myself (generally in bulk since it's a slow process with handtools, but you can get your local mill or shop to do it for you), so I'm left with 5 distinctly sized pieces:

Top = 180mm x 80mm
Bottom = 180mm x 74mm
Back = 174mm x 68mm
Right side = 174mm x 180mm
Left side = 180mm x 180mm

The left side is longer so that, if I were so inclined, I can glue the rest of the nook together and have the right side swing out like a door. It also makes squaring things up a little easier, since it will only fit together properly if it's square. Finally, I don't worry about any fancy joints, butt joints (hehehe) work fine since it's not going to support any weight. You'll also notice that I label all my parts--they're similar enough that it's easy to get confused (and I get confused easily anyways), so it's a good habit to have, especially when bulk cutting.
