Aloha BrewTube:

In this SPECIAL DOUBLE REVIEW episode of DJs BrewTube, I will review both Oskar Blues Old Chub & Old Chub NITRO. Oskar Blues describes these unique brews as follows:

Old Chub:
***"This jaw-dropping Scottish strong ale (8% ABV) is brewed with bodacious amounts of malted barley and specialty grains, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malt. Old Chub features semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, and a wee-bit of smoke. A head-turning treat for malt heads and folks who think they don’t dig dark beer."

Oskar Blues Old Chub NITRO:
***"OLD CHUB NITRO utilizes an existing widget technology developed by Ball. The Nitro widget is attached to the bottom of the can and is charged with liquid nitrogen during the filling process. The widget releases the nitrogen when the can is opened, liberating the cascading creamy smooth nitro pour."

This all sounds really tasty, so lets see whether I prefer the Original or the NITRO version. Oskar Blues Old Chub Vs. Old Chub NITRO written reviews follow:

*****Oskar Blues Old Chub WRITTEN REVIEW:

A: Oskar Blues Old Chub pours a dark, opaque mahogany color. A quickly forming and super dense 1.75 finger head forms and quickly dissipates leaving only a thin ring of bubbles all the way to the bottom of the beer. Plenty of sticky class lacing and alcohol legs were observed.

S: Malty sweetness, light roasted smell, coffee, chocolate, toffee, dark fruits. A lot of depth to it. No alcohol is detectable in the aroma.

T: follows the nose to a T. Malty sweetness, light roasted smell, coffee, chocolate, toffee, dark fruits. A lot of depth to it. No alcohol is detectable in the taste. Very balanced beer.

M: Slightly creamy texture. Rolled nicely on the tongue. Poured at the perfect temperature for an early spring evening.

D: Oskar Blues Old Chub is a great, classically styled beer for heavy sipping on a chilly night.

Serving Type: Bottle (12 oz Can)
