Today, we're discussing rules that every adult man should follow to look great and coordinate the proper sneakers with the correct outfit. Sneakers are a shoe that can make you look awesome, but they can also make you look like a huge dork.

Understand your sneakers' vibe and match it accordingly to the outfit. Sneakers have various vibes, including casual, athletic, sporty, smart, and casual. Understand what the sneakers are telling you and how they feel, and then coordinate the outfit accordingly. Sneakers are not just about the price tag, but also about ensuring they coordinate properly.

Athletic shoes should be worn with athletic clothes only. Athletic shoes should be worn when exercising or with athleisure wear. Running shoes only look good when engaging in an activity, but not with jeans, shorts, or chinos. Trainers also look better and are more suitable for the gym or while working out. Otherwise, they don't work. If you're looking for casual sneakers that aren't athletic, consider fashion sneakers from Adidas or Nike. Jordan 1s are one of my favorites, and Puma also offers some great options.

Match the leather texture, not just the color. Certain leathers are smooth, while others are more textured, such as suede or canvas. Your outfit looks more cohesive when you combine leather with other pieces. Smooth looks better with more structured outfits; textured leathers and suedes look better with more casual outfits.  Do not wear suede sneakers with jeans and a sports coat. Opt for a smoother finish that appears more polished and professional.

Go minimal for maximum versatility. Minimal leather sneakers are among the most versatile options available. Every guy needs a pair. They should be clean, low-profile, and have a nice, rounded toe box that's not too dramatic. I also love a gum sole because they don't get dirty. They work with shorts, jeans, and chinos. You could also opt for an all-black look. Suede is also an option.

Match the weight of the shoe to the outfit. A bulkier and heavier sneaker should not be matched with tailored or slim-fit clothing items. It looks awkward. Dad's sneakers, which are big and bulky, do not look great on guys who wear tailored clothing. Go for a minimal design.

Avoid brand clashing. If you're wearing a big Nike logo with Adidas pants, it looks weird. If you're wearing Adidas shorts and shoes with a Nike shirt, the look also clashes.

Avoid overpriced designer sneakers. These are trendy but not versatile. People buy them because they're a status symbol, but often end up not wearing them, making it a waste of money. Don't get caught up in the hype.

Play with sock visibility on purpose. Seeing socks is on-trend and on-brand. It's a youthful streetwear look that looks great, but not if your socks are nasty. Let your fun and vibrant socks be shown. For a more minimalist look, opt for a clean and sockless style with no-show socks. Nothing is worse than ankle socks. They look whack. To have your no-show socks blend in better, choose ones that match the interior of your sneakers.

Keep your sneakers clean. You don't want nasty, dirty, and scuffed sneakers. Be responsible and use a Magic Eraser on your white sneakers to keep stains and scuffs off them. Also, make sure your laces look good. Replace them when they get worn out and dingy.

Rotate your sneakers. You shouldn't just have one pair of sneakers. That's boring. You need to have a few options to coordinate them with different outfits. Also, if you only have one pair, they will wear out quickly. Have different sneakers for different looks and outfits. Whether you're wearing shorts, slacks, chinos, gym clothes, or something else, rotate them to keep your look fresh.
