Hiphop's influence on video game culture has been refreshing. Some games starred rappers, some titles made spitting rhymes or DJing part of the gameplay, and other developers just took influence from the music and culture.

All this has lead to a few fantastic games, a lot of terrible ones, and some that are just baffling. Here’s a brief history of what happens when hip hop/rap and video games come together.

Video games and rap music have grown up together. Run-DMC are as 80s as Pacman. Biggie rapped about Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, and we were all listening to The Blueprint when Grand Theft Auto 3 dropped.
