In 1967, Bihar experienced one of its worst droughts in decades after the failure of the monsoon. Agricultural production collapsed, grain shortages spread, and millions faced starvation. The scale of the disaster drew international concern. UNICEF and other agencies mobilised support, and Bihar became a focus of global reporting on famine and drought in India. That same year, actor Marlon Brando visited the state with UNICEF, helping to bring international attention to conditions on the ground and the urgent need for relief.
