It was a lovely day at the end of September. I went out with a camera intending to film something/anything on such a clear day but not knowing what. I decided on St. Walburge's church only to find that it was open to the public and that I could climb the tower and visit the spire. Couldn't have planned it better!
If you have never seen the view of Preston from St. Walburge's spire then this film is a must. If you have seen the view, then this film will remind you just what it felt like to be up there. What was that Alfred Hitchcock film again...? Oh Yes, 'Vertigo'
So, this has become a film about the church and its history as well as its view. As a church doesn't move then the camera has to move over it. So, if you feel a bit dizzy before we climb the tower then I'm only getting you ready for the thrill at the top. for the archive photos I have taken from the collection to enrich this film. If you look closely you might see the long gone canal basin, where now stand Uclan buildings, and also The Manxman in Preston dock.
