Описание к видео 8 Spiders That Look Like Black Widows

Black widows are one of the most venomous spiders in North America. Their bite can cause severe pain, muscle cramps, nausea, and sweating, and while rarely fatal, it’s nothing to take lightly.

Several other spiders share a similar shiny black body and red markings, which makes them easy to mistake for black widows. In this video, we’ll show you eight look-alike species and explain where they live, what they look like, and how to tell them apart.

Species shown in video:

00:31 – Red-spotted ant mimic spider – Found across the eastern U.S. in open woodlands and around homes. Its shiny black body and red spots mimic both ants and widows.
01:00 – Triangulate cobweb spider – Widespread across North America, this small household species builds messy webs and has a distinctive triangle pattern on its back.
01:25 – Barn funnel weaver – Common in barns, sheds, and basements across North America. They build dense funnel webs and have a duller brown coloration.
01:52 – Brown widow – Widespread in the southern U.S. and coastal areas. Similar shape and hourglass mark to the black widow but lighter brown with orange tones.
02:20 – Red widow – Native to Florida’s sandy scrub habitats. Bright red-orange legs and cephalothorax make them one of the most striking widow relatives.
02:58 – Rabbit hutch spider – Common around outbuildings and garden structures. Dark and compact, they’re often mistaken for young black widows.
03:45 – Noble false widow – Found mainly in Europe and the U.S. West Coast. Glossy brown to black with pale markings; bites are mild compared to true widows.
04:26 – Cupboard spider – Lives indoors and in sheltered outdoor areas worldwide. Females have a rounded dark abdomen with subtle pale markings.
