Sean "seangares" Gares, former in-game leader of Cloud9 and Misfits and former coach of 100T VALORANT and now content creator for Shopify Rebellion, is the star of the 307th Episode of 'Reflections'.

seangares is one of the best in-game leaders in North American Counter-Strike history. After a few years rising through the ranks as a player in 1.6 he was a key component in putting NA CS:GO on the map in the newer game. While DaZeD's iBUYPOWER was strong on domestic soil, it was sean's coL/Cloud9 line-up making play-off runs at international LANs which initially earned NA respect and put players like Hiko, swag and n0thing on display for fans.

A semi-finals runs at Dreamhack Winter 2013, the first CS:GO major, had sean's coL line-up losing only to the eventual champions, FNATIC. At ESL One Cologne 2014, his C9 line-up looked capable of a deep finish or maybe even winning the tournament, again losing to the eventual champions, this time an inspired NiP.

C9's 2015 run of three straight international runners-up finishes is still fondly remembered by fans to this day, seeing C9 almost beat FNATIC in the ESEA ESL Pro League S1 final, Na'Vi at ESWC and TSM at FACEIT Stage 2 Finals. Alas, C9 could not drum up another strong major finish and that ended the portion of sean's career where he was competing for international titles.

After leaving Cloud9, seangares would reappear as the in-game leader of newer organisations like Echo Fox and Misfits, finding limited success and very much more with the latter than the former. During these times he played with the likes of ShahZaM, SicK, Twistzz and AMANEK.

As his playing career wound down, sean became a semi-regular fixture on analysis desks. This was echoed in his VALORANT career, where he began as broadcast talent, this time a commentary duo with ddk. Eventually he decided to re-enter competition, becoming the 100 Thieves coach. Since then, sean has again become a content creator and broadcast talent.

In part two, sean talks about misperceptions about ShahZaM's skillset and his own in-game leading style, how to use stars Skadoodle and Shroud, Cloud9's famed summer run of finals appearances, the best major runs of his career and the one that got away.

This interview was recorded on the 10th of October, 2023.
