Terra planter technique
A Terraplanter is a special kind of self-watering planter made from porous, unglazed ceramic (terracotta).

Here’s how it works:

The inside of the planter holds water.

The outside surface is porous and textured, so water slowly seeps through it.

Plant roots can cling to the outer surface and absorb the moisture directly.

So instead of putting soil inside the pot, you let plants grow on the outside of it. It’s often used for mosses, ferns, climbing plants, or decorative small plants.

Think of it as a living sculpture: the planter itself stays reusable, and plants grow around it, turning it into a green, organic piece of decor.

👉 It became popular after a Kickstarter campaign in 2020, where it was marketed as a “soil-free” way to grow plants indoors.
