This album was produced to show my appreciation for Ralph Jones, one of my dearest and most loyal friends.H believed in me and everything I was trying to accomplish and was always present when I needed him.
For more than ten years I tried to interest record companies in organ instrumental spirituals. No one would listen.
Ralph always encouraged me to continue, even when it seemed a hopeless struggle trying to finance my project of producing religious music.Members of the record industry tried to persuade me from the religious field and produce records the public would buy. Doggedly I stuck to religious music. Ralph and I agree with Mahalia Jackson, the worlds greatest gospel singer, that spirituals are more rewarding than soul. Ralph toured with Mahalia along with Mildred Falls the pianist. They accompanied Miss Jackson on concert tours and on many of her Columbia records.
Some of the selections on this record, " In His Arms"", and Christ Is The Answers" were played to console me during some of my darkest hours and there were many. I have listened to the tapes many times when I could not sleep, or figure out how to meet pressing obligations. I was soothed and given courage to face the new day. I hope this album will do the same for you.
I survived and am working in my chosen field.
" No Hiding Place" and " Sit Down Servant" is part of a religious play depicting the wonders and the joy of the believers entrance to Heaven. One day we hope to complete our play and present it.
Side one has a grouping of happy moods. Side two is more serene so the listener will have a choice of playing the side that suits the mood of the moment.
Ralph Jones is an organist who knows his instrument as few others do.
I think the public is ready now.When i toured the South recently I was asked by every shopkeeper I visited, "When will the Ralph Jones record be available?" My reply was "Soon"
