I hope this will answer some questions about the anti drain / anti wet sumping valve as used on Norton Commandos. Keeps the oil in the tank instead of draining into the engine sump due to the clearances in the oil pump. A very light spring is used to keep a ball valve on its seat to keep oil from the oil pump inlet until the engine is running. It's a fail safe system meaning if the spring should fail then oil goes to the pump whether the engine is running or not just as it was before installing the valve. It cannot obstruct the flow of oil.
