Diagnosis of a persistent overheating issue on a 1998 Kawasaki STX 1100 Jet Ski. I have been in the process of restoring this Jet Ski, and keep finding issues to repair. The ski has been running great, but would start to shoot steam out of the bypass port after about 15 minutes of running in the water. I removed the head and exhaust system, as well as the cooling hoses, and removed various obstructions and blockages. In this video I reassemble the ski and demonstrate how to take cylinder head surface temp readings - there is lots of misinformation of the forums about how "the #1 cylinder on these engines runs hotter than the others" but this is a false notion. I show how a healthy engine with no cooling system blockages, no air leaks, and the correct fuel-air mixture will run consistent temperature on all cylinders at idle.
