I love the name INS Vikramaditya. I love the name INS Airawat. I love the name Sindughosh and other names of the Indian Naval Ships. I always used o wonder how Indian navy names its ships? I used to think that they would just ask bunch of suggestions from their sailors and pick the COOLEST name for the new naval SHIP.

As it turns out, I was wrong. When I researched about it a little I found that their is a lengthy official Process which leads to the name of an Indian Navy vessel, be it a submarine or a ship.

So in this video, I lay down the process as well as the conventions followed to name the ship by the Indian Navy along with Ministry of Defense.

The Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff, a four-star admiral, commands the navy.

The primary objective of the navy is to safeguard the nation's maritime borders, and in conjunction with other Armed Forces of the union, act to deter or defeat any threats or aggression against the territory, people or maritime interests of India, both in war and peace. Through joint exercises, goodwill visits and humanitarian missions, including disaster relief, Indian Navy promotes bilateral relations between nations.
