3. Medium shot Michael Caine; pull-out to cast
4. Medium shot John Standing
5. SOUNDBITE (English) John Standing, actor:
"Yeah, I'm bloody lucky to be offered something at my age anyway and was perfectly thrilled to do it. And Olly Parker had seen me, apparently, in a play called 'Hay Fever' by Noël Coward thirty years before, which is completely ridiculous, and said, 'I want to use him.' So he waited thirty years and did, but the wait, as far as I'm concerned, was well worth it because I loved doing it. I absolutely loved doing it. It was a joy and being with Michael was lovely, you know, and we're friends on stage and off, so it was, you know, it was great to do."
6. Various shots Laura Marcus
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Laura Marcus, actor - on what attracted her to the role:
"Oh, my gosh. I mean, the fact that it's a love story. I feel like we haven't had a lot of British movies at the moment that are just like, real, pure love stories especially between an older couple. I think that was really nice. Of course, Glenda and Michael being attached to the story was a huge pull to get me as well. But the writing is just so beautiful and the way things become epic and intimate at the same time. I mean, it's just an amazing project."
(Reporter: "And how was it working alongside Glenda and Sir Michael as well? Were there nerves?")
"No, I have no nerves! Of course, yes, there was many an hour thinking what universe have I fallen into to allow this to happen? But it was, generally speaking, just an absolute honor."
9. Medium shot Will Fletcher
10. Medium shot Oliver Parker
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Oliver Parker, director:
"It's not like a big Hollywood movie where you got big trailers where they can relax. We had to work hard and they were on it. They just were so connected and supportive both of each other, but also, you know, for the whole crew and it was actually rather wonderful. Just talking to Michael earlier, he was saying that they're the nicest crew he'd ever worked with. And I think they were all slightly mesmerized by these two kind of titans working often in very small spaces together and they were very inspiring. And you could actually see it in the faces often of young women watching Glenda, going, 'My god, you could be this at that age and still have this passion, this kind of intelligence. And then Michael coming in and always playful and then suddenly the camera turns and he's just electric. So it was a thrill for all of us to work with them."
12. Wide shot Oliver Parker
13. SOUNDBITE (English) Oliver Parker, director - on whether Glenda Jackson saw the film before she died:
"She seemed to love it. She was so - she laughed and she cried but also she didn't talk about her own performance, which is kind of typical but she was incredibly complimentary about everybody else. And it was a lovely thing. I'm so delighted. I think I would have felt quite something missing if she hadn't seen her work because I'm so proud on her behalf for her work in this film. I think it's wonderful, and to do that at that point in her life is very inspiring. So yeah, so it was, thank god she did (see it)."
14. Various shots William Ivory
15. SOUNDBITE (English) William Ivory, writer:
16. Wide reverse shot Michael Caine sitting with Oliver Parker
18. Medium shot Victor Oshin
