Geographically, the Abutia region is situated between latitudes 6.33˚3ˈ N and 6.93˚6ˈ N and longitudes 0.17˚4ˈ E and 0.53˚39ˈ E, sharing boundaries with the Afadjato area to the north, the Adaklu District to the south, South Dayi District to the west, Ho Municipal to the east, and the Republic of Togo to the east. The area covers approximately 1,002.79 square kilometers.

One of the notable features near Abutia-Agodeke is the Kalakpa Resource Reserve, a national park located between the Abutia and Adaklu traditional areas. The reserve spans about 325 square kilometers and is characterized by a dry Borassus-Combretum woodland ecosystem. It serves as a habitat for various wildlife species and offers opportunities for eco-tourism and research.

The Abutia Traditional Area has a rich history, having been part of the German colony of Togoland from 1884 to 1916 and subsequently under British colonial rule until Ghana's independence in 1957.
