Charles Finney was a man used of God to bring many to Jesus Christ. A minister and evangelist, he preached to countless people and saw God work in the hearts of many.

Today, while churches focus on man-made methods to "grow" God's kingdom such as clever marketing, charismatic leadership, and technology, Finney understood an unchanging truth about God's work: prayer is the thing that makes the devil tremble and brings out God's power in ministry.

When Jesus' disciples could not cast out demons, the disciples asked Jesus why they could not. Jesus said that it could only come about by prayer in Mark chapter 9.

Charles Finney said it this way:
"If a church is not growing in holiness and power and is not filled with the Spirit, the issue is not whether they have prayer meetings, but what kind of prayer meetings they have."
