Here's a little lyric video we put together for my latest single "Highway Home" from my Underneath record. I hope you like it. The video footage was taken with me steadying my iPhone on the dash while my wife drove us through an amazing, never-ending November sunset in the hills of Kentucky on I71 just north of Louisville on our way to Nashville. The song was co-written with the talented Debra Alexander at a session in SOCAN headquarters in Toronto about a week before I was due to make the annual pilgrimage back to the "auld" country. The involuntary butterflies were already taking flight at the prospect of my memories reuniting with the present day, that powerful mixture of excitement in reconnecting with the people and the landscape combined with natural anxiety around what has changed. In many ways, it's a song written about the emotional highway home as much as the physical one.

When it came time to record the song it turned out being one of my most magical moments in the studio - live off the floor, engineered by the late great Michael Banton-Jones with Steve O' Connor on piano, Gary Craig on drums, John Dymond on bass and myself on acoustic guitar and vocal. There was a real immediacy from all of us being captured in one take. Rob Ickes later added some sweet Dobro overdubs and Justin Abedin some electric guitar spice and the song was mixed in Nashville by Grammy award-winner Chad Carlson. Maybe it will take you down memory lane to a special journey you have made in your own life.
