Gunblade NY is an Fast Paced Arcade game developed by SEGA's AM3 (renamed to Hitmaker) division and on Model 2 Hardware. It's like a Lightgun game, but it uses a massive joystick shaped like a gun with a trigger, pulling it vibrates the gun and the machine rather violently, and gives a lot of pain. Most people will remember the game because of the giant vibrating guns!

When you start your credit, you are given the option of 3 courses, Easy (which is this video), Hard and Score Attack Remix. The Hard course isn't much longer than the Easy course, so it doesn't give much of an incentive to choose. Score Attack is fun, you are given 60 seconds on a stage and 120 seconds on the final stage, and your stage order is sorted by how well you score, so I end up with the hardest final stage every time.

Gunblade uses Loose Rails, in attempt to mimick a behaviour of a helicopter, so you will find yourself looping around enemies quite a lot, so it helps to shoot enemies at the right time, to stop yourself from turning around even more. Enemies take around about 5 hits before they give up, or just 1 head shot, enemies also move around when firing at them, so it helps to aim first, but it is very easy to just hold the trigger down.

Also the camera in the game will focus on the enemy that you are aiming at, which is a nice feature, but can sometimes throw the camera right into objects, getting you stuck for some time, or scraped against the walls, which I try to avoid doing here.

Lots of places online seem to compare this to Virtua Cop, because AM2 made that game and it's on the same Hardware, but it is nothing like it really. It had a sequel called LA Machineguns.
I didn't play this game in the arcade, as I felt it to be too short for the money, and that you try to beat the game as quick as possible, you get very little time playing, if you can beat it. At least the sequel is longer!

I also play arcade racing games,    • Arcade Racing Games by Smraedis   and shmups too    • Shmups played by Smraedis
