About the liaison in "Je suis américain." :
What I didn't say is that, it's correct to do the liaison.
But after the verb "être" the phonetics rule is that YOU CAN BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
And today most people don't say it anymore.

So it's not incorrect to do the liaison (but it sounds a bit off to us because we're not used to hearing it as much anymore.)

And it's also not incorrect to not do the liaison here!
