Скачать или смотреть 1951: Miami's Weather Forecasters Scan the Skies

Here's the busy scene at the Miami Weather Bureau Office (WBO) in 1951, five years before the National Hurricane Center (not yet under that name) was designated at Miami. Hurricane forecasting was of particular concern in 1951 after Hurricane King did substantial damage in the area.

This center may have been located in the Lindsey Hopkins Building; the WBO moved there in 1948. Pioneer hurricane tracker Grady Norton was in charge of this office. He died of a stroke in 1954 after working a twelve-hour shift forecasting hurricane Hazel.

This story features an aerial shot of what looks like Miami and the Everglades looking west.
