North Bay League Redwood Division leaders Maria Carrillo defeated second place Roseland University Prep 3-2 in a hard-fought rematch on January 31, 2019 at the Sonoma Academy soccer field. Carrillo took the lead early with a goal from Ryan Dieter (8), and it was followed by another not long after from William Cruz (7), who was assisted by Dieter. Roseland made it 2-1 when Gabriel Cazarez (17) used his thigh to shoot the ball after it bounced off the back of (11). In the second half, Oswaldo Rodriguez (18) soon made it 3-1 for Carrillo, with an assist from Derek Uemura (5). Roseland would not give up, and Eduardo Baltazar (4) made it a close race with a goal late in the 2nd half. Baltazar appeared to be in an off-side position, but he received the ball that was deflected off the foot of a Carrillo player so the goal stood. This hard charging battle was exciting to watch and Carrillo fans were relieved when the ref blew his whistle!
