More than 1,000 unionized Starbucks baristas launched a nationwide strike across 65 stores on Red Cup Day, one of the company's busiest sales events, demanding a fair contract after four years of stalled negotiations. Workers say the last company offer was rejected six months ago for failing to address key demands including better pay, improved staffing, and healthcare benefits. NYC's youngest mayoral-elect, Zohran Mamdani, honored his October pledge by calling for a Starbucks boycott, blasting CEO Brian Niccol's $96 million compensation- 6,666 times the average worker's pay. Over 100 lawmakers led by Bernie Sanders have accused Starbucks of union-busting tactics. The open-ended strike could escalate with 550 unionized stores ready to join if negotiations don't resume.
