The biggest mistake with drum practice, bar none.

It's not rocket science. The thing about practice is managing your expectations vs reality. Reality requires more effort (in time and repetition) than your expectation wish for.

In order to learn a new sequence as quickly as you are capable, your brain needs UNBROKEN (ie no mistakes or as few as possible) REPETITION.

The best way to achieve that is to set a timer for 2/3/5 mins at a tempo which is realistic (think about pacing yourself for a marathon, not a sprint) and focus on maintaining that lick/co-ordination pattern/rudiment and being conscious, mindful and focused as you do.

Use your eyes, ears and touch to absorb the feedback from the physical performance and improve and maintain.

This is the quickest route to success. More patience = quickest route to goal.
