Johannes Vermeer | The Art of Painting

Описание к видео Johannes Vermeer | The Art of Painting

Joahnnes Vermeer, or Jan Vermeer van Delft, (1623-1675) was a dutch painter - and very possibly the student of Carel Fabritius, who in turn was tutored by the no one else than Rembrandt Van Rijn. He was long forgotten in art historical discussions but was brought back into the light in 1886 by the french art critic W. Bürger-Thoré. Not many of his paintings have survived, but among the 30-40 landscapes and interiors, he shows himself as the marvelous colorist he are. Especially cool, complementary tones of yellow and blue appear in several of his paintings, most famously in “The Milkmaid” and “The girl with the pearl earring”. Most striking, when confronted with a Vermeer in real life, is the surprisingly small size and amazing attention to detail of his interiors and portraits. When standing in the Rijkmuseum and watching “Girl and love letter”, it is like you are watching a small moment in time, just as the girl opened the letter, or as the milk leaves the tip of the jug to fill the small glass.
