Описание к видео Syracuse University Film Reel (Anna Lee)

“Eigengrau” (00:00-00:51) is the first independent short film (self-directed, edited, and written) that I submitted as part of a project for my IBDP Film HL class, and is perhaps the most personal piece as well. Revolving around how Old Hollywood films have always been a part of my life, I chose the title “Eigengrau”, a German word that translates to “the absence of light” to represent my story. This helped epitomise my close relationship with the German expressionistic, moody, black and white aesthetic that I often incorporate into my own work as homage to the silver screen. The score consists of several tracks composed by Georges Auric from the 1961 drama film “Goodbye Again”, also known as “Aimez-Vous Brahms”. "Serenity" (0:51-01:12) is a cinematic sequence I created to convey the simple pleasures and comforts of home life in the early hours of morning. The warm colour palette and Jóhann Jóhannsson's piece "Diasy, Daisy" from The Theory of Everything heightened the tranquil tone of the film. “Dropouts: Episode One” (01:12-02:06) is a collaborative short webisode I co-directed, edited, and shot with a peer from my IBDP Film HL class. The bright, saturated visuals starkly juxtaposed with the chosen title song, Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” quietly foreshadows the internal struggles that high school students in the IB program mutually share. "The Lantern" (02:06-02:22) is a short film focusing on a businessman living in a foreign land who had never encountered snow until one evening walking home from work. The low-key lighting and exposure create a visual juxtaposition between the darkness of the night and the white snow falling down from the sky. Francis Lai's "Bozo Barrett" from Love Story creates an ethereal tone which captures the businessman's awe and fascination with the snow. "Woman" (02:22-03:09) is another independent short IBDP Film HL project structured around a lonely young man who has been noticing the same woman sitting in a restaurant near his house every day for several years. As time passes, his curiosity grows and he even considers approaching her until one day, she disappears. He reflects on the lasting impact she made on him despite never truly knowing anything about her. The film incorporates an overarching warm color palette and slightly faded yellow tint to visually display the protagonist’s melancholy and routine-like existence. I chose two pieces from Alexandre Desplat’s score from “The Grand Budapest Hotel” to enhance the mysterious and lonely tone of the film. "Leben Danach" (03:09-04:03) is a short film I independently created as part of an English Literature HL graded presentation. Accompanied by an old Yiddish song, the film’s somber tone is supposed to embody the life and horrors that author Primo Levi undergoes after his time at the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust, which is supported by the translation of the film’s title, meaning “life afterward”. “Monophobia” (04:03-04:37) is a short film I created during the summer, which visually exemplifies the effect of loneliness on the human condition through its tracking shots and mostly cold tints. Its psychological nature is strongly intensified through my focus on the film's sound design. Lastly, "Red" (04:37-04:59) is one of the first short films I created, revolving around a mentally unstable woman preparing for a date with malicious intentions. I showcased the symbolic nature of the colour red in the film through my saturated colour palette and musical track (Don Rodney and Guy Lombardo’s Red Roses for a Blue Lady).
