These birds of prey can be found in Southern parts of Africa usually near a water source in dry, open desert-like plains with scattered trees and not much ground cover.
Chanting Goshawks survive on a diet of small mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, insects and carrion. They can be seen walking on the ground hunting or following other predators to catch prey that is flushed out along the way. They also perform aerial chases when catching birds and descend from high perches to strike prey on the ground.
Pale chanting goshawks are generally monogamous but are sometimes seen in threesomes with two males and one female. It is suspected that in these instances it takes two males to supply enough food for the brooding female and chicks or both males are needed to defend the territory successfully.
