*And, briefly, the NLT Translation used in this Bible.

Who is This Bible Right For?

At the end, I’ll share my thoughts on who might appreciate this BIble most, as well as for whom it might not be a good match. You will have everything you need to make an informed choice.

The Big Ideas and Highlights of the Jesus-Centered Bible Review

The key aim of this Bible is to help you build a relationship with Jesus. So, each feature focuses on Jesus in more relational and personal ways, rather than providing scholarship about the text.

Outside and Introductory Features

This Bible has some thorough introductory information that focus on explaining the features of the Bible itself.

Also, information about the contributors to this Bible abound. I’d love to see that kind of information in every Bible!

Visual Elements

The visual elements are the primary place to find this Bible’s emphasis. The Old Testament includes “blue letter” text. Blue highlighting calls out Old Testament passages that allude to Jesus.

Additionally, there are also separate boxes and circles that act to either give contextual background information or ask open-ended questions. These are designed to prompt the reader to engage in more thought.

The NLT Translation

This Bible utilizes the NLT translation. The NLT focuses on re-presenting the ideas behind the original text in its rendering of English. It’s an apt choice for a Bible that’s more zeroed in on connecting with Jesus in a personal way. The NLT is easily readable and digestible.

Who Should Study With This Bible – And Who Should Not

This Bible might be a great fit for someone who has some understanding of the fundamentals of Christianity, but is looking to grow in relationship with Jesus.

As a result, people who are generally more relationally engaged – and perhaps less interested in contextualization and historical positioning – might also appreciate this Bible.

It does a great job of asking engaging questions about Jesus that will prompt a reader to engage with the person of Jesus in a new way.

On the other hand, someone who wants to understand Christian theology might not appreciate this Bible. While the scripture itself is presented, the notes and features are minimal overall. The focus, as advertised, is on engagement with Jesus.

How to Learn Even More as You Read

The NLT translation (as with all translations) has certain features and characteristics that can shift and affect the way we read the Bible. So, understanding your translation is a valuable skill when it comes to Bible study.
