This video/vlog is about public school admission process for kindergartener and the first day school experience during winter storm in Canada 2022. Also how to use the public school transportation facility.

In USA and Canada, the education is free from kindergarten to high school, including the bus facility.
First thing after finding your house, make sure to check the school district based on your residing address because all schools will have a boundary and based on your address, the school will be selected by the school district board. You can visit the school district board website to go through the school registration process and by default all the immigrants fall under international student. In the website after you have registered, you would be asked to upload a work permit of parents, proof of address, birth certificate and child's visitor record. In 1 or 2 days, the school board will contact you for virtual appointment for your application and during the video call, we would be asked to show the original documents that we uploaded. Once after the school board verifies the document, they will send an admission letter to the near by public school. Then the school secretary/principal would contact you on the start date and other procedures that has to be done. They will also inform the teacher's name and email for us to contact them directly.

Just before the in person schooling, we had a heavy snow/winter storm which ended up causing a trouble with transport. All the cars were stuck in snow and everyone was waiting for the snow moving truck to clear the drive way. So, the next day we started with meal preparation(Indian food) and fruits for his snack/nutritional break. In addition, the school has requested for additional pair of shoes and socks to use inside the school. Also, change of clothes, extra face masks and water bottle. Since, it is winter it takes at least 15 minutes to get the kid dressed up. The dressing starts with thermals, sweatshirt, sweat pant and then comes to snow pant, glove, beanie/hat, winter jacket and snow boots. We headed out but our car was stuck in snow due to the snow/winter storm which happened the previous day. It was a struggle to take the car out, but after lot of snow shoveling and could drive to school.

We reached school when it was time for the morning bell and we were trying to find the kindergarten class room. And we finally found the door and dropped our child. The school ends around 3:10pm and we were there to pick him. Due to snow/winter storm, we had 2 feet of snow and our kid just walked on the snow and enjoyed the way out. He enjoyed the first day of school as he had snow play time, indoor sand play and other toys to play with. The overall experience of first day of school in Canada was good.
The next day it was time to use the school bus facility which is also free of cost. We had to take our kid to school bus pick up point and the kid can get in the bus. Also the driver will ensure our kids safety before taking off the bus. The pick up point will also be the same place where we dropped in the morning. And another good thing about the school bus is when the lights are flashing red with stop sign, no cars would cross the bus. Everything will come to a stand still until the bus takes off the flashing light. The school bus driver will watch all the kids to ensure they just reached their walk way with their parents before turning off the flash lights and stop sign.
