As the 2025 Jubilee has come to an end, Rome is presenting a new exhibition, “The Jubilee Without a Pope.” The exhibition looks back at a dark period in European history. In the 14th century, millions died during the Black Death. Yet even at the height of the plague, the Jubilee of 1350 was held, offering spiritual hope amid widespread suffering. It recounts the pilgrimages during the year there was no pope in Rome due to the Avignon Papacy, a period in which the popes resided in Avignon, France. The exhibition shows the continued journey that people are called to undertake to seek healing and strength, even in the darkest moments. EWTN Vatican journalist Valentina Di Donato has more.
