Built as one of the five opulent "Wonder Theatres" in New York City and Jersey City, the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theatre, on Journal Square in Jersey City, went from the height of decadence in 1929 to being slated for demolition in 1987. Against all odds, the historic theater was saved by the persistence of a handful of locals and has been lovingly restored almost entirely by volunteers for over 20 years.
