Entering the palmetto gates of the Driftwood Beach on a low tide is something a beach lover, nature lover, photographer, or anyone looking for an outdoor experience while in Eastern South Carolina.

The mind begins to wander with the sounds of the Atlantic Ocean polishing the driftwood, shells , and shoreline. Tradition of the beach is to find the big welk shell and put them on a limb or a tree branch , root in the storm worn driftwood trees. This creates beach activity, which creates a magical atmosphere. I could not help myself to take part in this tradition as my mind cleared and began to wander.

This is Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area is 4,600 acres of beautiful land located in the northeast corner of Edisto Island and adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. The trailhead for public access to Driftwood Beach is located in the Botany Bay Plantation. This is a great way to enjoy a day when on the eastern coast of South Carolina . It is located just south of Charleston, South Carolina.

This video is the low tide experience walking the beach of Driftwood Beach on Hammock Island once was the grounds of the Bleak Hall Plantation.  This area is constantly being ravished by storms year after year, causing extreme beach erosion. This erosion is what makes this such a photogenic destination or a must-see area.


This beach is protected with a $450-470 fine for each item removed off the beach, which allows for some sites you would not ever have access to in on a public beach.
