Blue chip History - Introduction

Look, if you are watching this video or PUBG related videos in general then we can agree that we both want PUBG to continue to exist. How does that happen? By evolving. By listening to community feedback. By iterating on ideas. I hope that the blue chip revive system will see some revisions in the coming future.

The revive system was introduced in Patch 23.2, nearly 6 years AFTER the game launched. Why? Has Krafton acknowledged any specific reason for introducing the system? In the official patch note video it mentions that the system was introduced to “reduce frustration during squad play” and “promote diverse strategies”.

I will assert that the bluechip system, while not perfect, remains a good thing for PUBG. It brings a sense of casualness to the game that did not exist before. BUT that casualness has the typical PUBG flavor to it. The PUBG flavor is one of being skewed towards the hardcore and I think that’s a good thing as well. Why? It is one of PUBG’s core identity features. Just think about the gun play compared to other First Person Shooters for a better example.

I believe the blue chip system in-place currently was Krafton’s Minimum Viable Product for version 1. This feature likely took significant resources and time to implement so I absolutely do not want to downplay the effort spent here. The feature feels whole, from revive towers to revive inventory pieces and even to the blue chip detector that was removed. A very solid version 1 of a feature. Now that nearly a year of in-game data has been collected, it is a perfect time to evaluate some updates and/or tweaks.
