Sean Soriano (14-6) is already a familiar name for most MMA fans because six years ago he was a UFC Featherweight. Saturday, 5/15, at UFC 262 the 31-year-old returns to the octagon after being cut by the promotion, ten pounds lighter at Lightweight. An 0-3 record took him out of the UFC but now he aims to turn the tides riding a three-fight win streak into the biggest matchup of his career.

Sean calls Providence, Rhode Island his home. He was born in the State’s Capital back in 1989. His MMA journey began with high school wrestling, where he became a State Champion his senior year at 145 lbs. Soriano was a multi-sport athlete while growing up playing baseball and soccer into high school. The background in many sports still shines in the cage, easy to see his next-level speed and athleticism in his striking.

Upon graduating in 2007, Sean traded in his wrestling singlet for a rash guard and began training MMA full-time. He moved down to the MMA hotbed of South Florida and found a new home with Blackzilians, now officially Sanford MMA. He took his first pro fight two years later in 2009. Five years later after 8 straight victories, undefeated Soriano signed with the UFC.

Although his first stint ended abruptly, Sean saw a solution to his recent struggles in the cage and continued developing his game ten pounds above his normal weight now at lightweight (155 lbs). Six years after his release, Soriano returns to the octagon alongside main training partner, Michael Chandler, who fights for the vacant UFC Lightweight title in Saturday’s main event. Sean finds himself on the opposite end of the card, leading off in style against Christos “The Spartan” Giagos (18-8). With a big win, Sean Soriano can put a big bow on top of a long, winding road of a great comeback story.
