An exquisite pair of Purdey and Sons guns made in 1953 and virtually unused after several years in storage. These fine and much sought-after guns have 26-inch chopper-lump barrels with 2 1/2" chambers, about 3/4 and full choke borings, sunken game ribs, the frames, locks and numbered top levers retaining virtually all of their original hardening colour. With lined cocking indicators, 15-inch highly figured stocks including slim leather-covered recoil pads these guns weigh 6lb 5oz and are in their maker’s brassbound oak and leather case. The records note 'Best fine engraving by Kell'.

It's going under the hammer at Gavin Gardiner's auction of sporting guns on 1 May 2019 – estimated at £30,000-£40,000.
