This project focuses on the process of the art-making itself. It has varied materials, textures, encourages varied use of colour, and as always, encourages the use of fine motor skills. During the making of this project, it is interesting to see how the materials interact with one another (how the wax pushes the watercolour paint away). All of these aspects can be used as topics for conversation with your loved one. Be willing to take your time with this project and encourage your loved one to do as much of it as possible. This may require that you put your hands over theirs in order to accomplish these steps. This can be somewhat time-consuming, but your loved one will benefit from the one-to-one engagement.

For this project, you will need:

A variety of tree leaves
Wax crayons
A sheet of paper
Water colour paints
Jar of water
Paintbrush
Napkin for blotting
