Cumberland's Rawson Pond refills with help of temporary dam

Water is back in Rawson Pond in Cumberland, making some homeowners feel more at ease, after seeing months of mud.

Photos from last week show vegetation taking over, making a messy marsh after the dam at the pond’s spillway breached in January.

"The whole pond pretty much drained. All we had was a stream and everybody wanted the pond to be returned,"Cumberland Public Works Director Joseph Duarte said.

Cumberland town leaders said they got to work right away. They came up with a plan to install a temporary dam, made of sand and sandbags, costing $300,000.

The structure will also help if a permanent dam is constructed later on.
