Hi, I’m Joe Conrad with Skyline Home Loans. I specialize in reverse mortgages. One of the questions I get asked on a regular basis is, “how do I know that the mortgage company I’m working with is the best reverse mortgage company?”

This is an important question. Ultimately, a lot of mortgage companies have a lot of similarities. Some mortgage companies work exclusively on reverse mortgages, and you might want to consider that. But more important than the company is the mortgage professional, or the mortgage planner as I call it. A mortgage planner helps take care of your overall financial goals and objectives. Who you’re working with is as important or even more important than the company you’re working with.

Your mortgage company should have many different investors to make sure that your needs are well taken care of. But the experience of your mortgage planner is really what’s going to dictate your experience. Where your mortgage planners get there business says a lot about them. You want someone who is used to working with professionals. I get most of my business from CPAs, financial planners, etc. Communication is also key. It should be quick, effective, and efficient.
