Prairie Island 1999 — just days before Christmas. The kind of gathering that brought all the families in, right before the snow really set in. Dancers came in from every direction — some for the contest, some just to be with relatives, and a whole bunch of us for both. You could feel it in the air.

🎄 It was that weekend before Christmas…
🛍️ when folks met up at the Mall of America,
🍽️ shared those Holiday Dinners with their powwow fam
💬 and laughed deep into the night like only our people do.

This here is the Women’s Southern Buckskin category.
And the way these ladies move — graceful, grounded, full of spirit — they carried more than just regalia. They carried presence. You’ll recognize some of these sisters.
