Raja Harnath Roy Chowdhury has become famous among the Dubalhati zamindars for his various charitable works. The zamindari of his time was extensive in present-day Rajshahi, Bogra, Dinajpur, Faridpur, and Sylhet districts. Dubalhati zamindari is the oldest zamindar family in the greater Rajshahi district. In recognition of his philanthropic work during the famine of 184, the British government conferred on him the titles of Raja in 185 and Raja Bahadur in 18.
