Just because a move looks good, we should not play it directly. We should first apply the scientific method of actively searching for the best reply by the opponent against our good looking candidate move. This is a fundamental process in chess calculation, and this video explains this process by instructive examples. I think it is here chess resembles science the most.

Grandmasters see promising moves instantly, but they spend a long time searching for potential counterevidence from the world before they play that move. This 'falsificiation' process also lies at the heart of the scientific method.
