Chicago Bears Rookie Minicamp Day 1 Takeaways: Caleb Williams & Rome Odunze + Kiran Amegadjie Injury

Day 1 of Chicago Bears Rookie Minicamp is in the books as Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze practiced at Halas Hall for the first time. Both Williams and Odunze spoke to the media before practice as did Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. Chat Sports host Harrison Graham has today’s Bears news & takeaways from rookie minicamp:
- Matt Eberflus names Caleb Williams QB1 over Tyson Bagent ensuring that there isn’t a QB competition
- Kiran Amegadjie Injury News: The Bears’ 3rd Round Pick out of Yale did not practice and likely won’t be available until Chicago Bears Training Camp in July per Eberflus. Flus said the Bears were aware of Amegadjie’s quad injury and timetable when they drafted him.
- Caleb Williams talks leadership. The Bears’ rookie QB says it’s important for him to follow, listen and learn from veterans before establishing himself as the leader of this football team.
- Rome Odunze’s mindset in a loaded WR Room: Odunze says his mindset is to be WR1 and he wants everyone else to have that goal. He knows that he has a lot to learn and is excited to do so with Keenan Allen and DJ Moore.
- Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze reportedly connected on several passes during 7-on-7 drills at Bears Rookie Minicamp today. Those 2 are the headliners during this weekend.

“To be a great leader, you have to learn how to follow first. So right now I’m following all the vets, I’m following all the coaches, I’m listening – having both ears open and my mouth shut - just kind of sitting back listening. When I get to the point of when I learn everything, when I learn the ways of how we do it, the culture, the playbook and what the offensive line, wide receivers are all doing, running backs and tight ends, things like that, then you can start taking the lead.”

Rome Odunze On his mindset in Bears’ WR Room
“What I want in a wide receiver room is for everyone to think they are WR1. That’s the mindset I bring to a WR room. It’s a friendly competition. I want the best for the brother beside me. They’ve been doing it for a long time, so I got a ways to catch up here, but I’m gonna provide a different skillset and different versatility to the offense that I hope compliments their play.”
