Silicon detectors for Particle Physics

Описание к видео Silicon detectors for Particle Physics

Silicon detectors, since their inception in the 1960s, have played a vital role
in many path-breaking discoveries. They enabled the observation of the top
quark (an elementary particle as heavy as a gold atom), the discovery of
charge-parity violation (a key ingredient for matter-antimatter asymmetry),
the discovery of the Higgs boson or God's particle, and many more.
In this session, we will give a virtual tour of how silicon detectors look, how
we build and test them, and their deployment at ambitious and challenging
experiments around the world. We will also discuss some of the results.

About the presenters: Presenters are researchers specialized in experimental particle physics. Mr. Mukund Shelake is a Research Scholar, Mr. Kameshwar Rao is a Senior Scientific Officer and Dr. Gagan Mohanty is a Professor at the Dept. of High Energy Physics, TIFR.
