An electric clock has an oscillator with a quartz cristal that generates even pulses. Those pulses are amplified and go to a electromagnet. Then the pulses are magnetic pulses that move the first gear with a tiny magnet inside. The mechanical movement is then transmited through the rest of the gears that end moving the clock hands.
