ET NOW caught up with D D Mishra, Senior Research Director, Gartner to understand the impact of Covid second wave on Indian Outsourcing industry. Mishra said, “Clients are concerned about absenteeism although there is no disruption at this point in time…some clients are seeing double digit absenteeism and some Cos are seeing 5-8% absenteeism, believe the impact on outsourcing industry may not be very positive in the long term , confidence is getting dented at the moment…industry contributes to about 8% of GDP...global clients are asking if they can rely on the data as they are seeing high absenteeism...somewhere the trust is dented…the concern is more long term as it may impact India’s position as a favorable destination of IT Outsourcing.” He said, “This is not a local India-only problem, this is a global crisis”, we (India) needs to take the covid situation more seriously than we have taken so far. On a long term basis clients will look for automation so that dependency on humans go down, clients are also looking at buddy program to deal with absenteeism, on long term basis 'digitalization' is the solution, alternative delivery models are being considered by clients.
