Young Chimp Taking Care Of Baby Brother

Stevie was spending a lot of time with her baby brother Jeff on this visit to Chester Zoo.
She really does take her role as big sister seriously and is a huge help to mum ZeeZee.

Jeff and the tiny baby chimpanzee is a member of the World's Rarest Chimpanzee subspecies
Baby Chimp Jeff is a Western Chimpanzee, officially recognised and listed as a critically endangered species, born at Chester Zoo.
He is so special and an important addition to the Chester Zoo troop, adding security to the survival of this magnificent species of Great Ape
Chester Zoo is part of the European and international Chimpanzee Breeding Program and is dedicated to ensuring the survival of these magnificent animals. Chimpanzees are great apes and are human's closest relative, sharing nearly 99% of our DNA

Zeezee is an experienced mum and has had other offspring born at the world famous zoo, including Stevie, big sister to little chimp Jeff.
Many other chimps in the troop, watch out for the new baby chimp and the other chimp youngsters in the chimp family at Chester Zoo which now totals 20 members comprising of 7 Males and 13 Females (as of April 2023)
Baby Chimpanzee First Steps
The New Baby Chimp is the first Male Baby chimpanzee to be born at the zoo since Carlos in 2005, the last 3 babies born since 2019 have all been female
Baby Chimp Jeff was born on 9th December 2022 and spent the first few weeks bonding with the Chester Zoo chimp troop
Chester Zoo announced the baby chimps birth on social media 11th January 2023 and later on 17th January 2023 announced that his name is Jeff, named in tribute to Jeff Beck British Rock Guitarist.
This is also in keeping with the zoo tradition of naming baby chimps after iconic pop and Rock Music legends
