Sunitee Devee was born in 1864. Her parents were Keshab Chandra Sen, an intellectual and Jaganmohini Sen. Keshab Chandra Sen had converted to Brahmo and became a renowned Brahmo leader. Her marriage to the King of Coochbehar at the age of 14 created controversy. She attended the golden jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria in England and was the first Maharani of India to do so. She received the CI from the Queen.She followed the footsteps of her father in encouraging women's education. Apart from her autobiography in English, she wrote other books and penned poems in English and Bengali. She passed away in 1932.
