Jack was born with hydrocephalus, an excess of cerebrospinal fluid in the brains ventricles. This condition is addressed with shunts to drain the excess fluid, but Jack also has severe hemophilia, which complicates his treatment. With expert care provided by UI Childrens Hospital, Jack leads an active life, excels at school, and has many friends despite his numerous hospitalizations. He enjoys cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and has decorated his room with posters and memorabilia.
